Bowling Format & Etiquette
Bowling is preceded by a short introduction on the object of the game, bowl grip, bias and delivery, and use of rakes. Once a game is underway, our member volunteers will assist your group with coaching on bowling technique, order of play, and scoring.
If you wish we can organize a mini-tournament where your group bowls 4 or 6 ends which generally takes 60 minutes followed by a 20-to-30-minute refreshment break to handicap the scoring and a play-off where the top 4 teams bowl for first, second and third place. Those who are not involved in the play-off can continue to bowl or relax around the grounds. Any prizes for the 3 winning teams are provided by the event holder. We can discuss other formats if required.
Game Teams usually consist of 3 players per team, with 2 teams on each rink, using 3 bowls per player. It is possible to create teams of 4 players (max), the most appropriate format can be confirmed with you prior to the event date.
Late Arrivals - Should some of your guests arrive after the event has started, we do not extend the event time. It is best if everyone is present to start the game.
Food & BeverageIf you wish to serve alcohol, the event organizer is responsible for obtaining the requisite LCBO private event permit and you must provide your own Smart Serve representatives. We only allow beer, wine, cider or coolers (no spirits) at the club and can only be consumed under the covered patio or inside the clubhouse in recyclable glasses or cups. Food must be served on recyclable paper or plastic plates. If you do not wish to provide food for the event, there is a BBQ, coffee and ice cream vendor (Beaches Nā Cream) located adjacent to our club house. Beaches Nā Cream do not cater but have tables and serve from a food truck. They also have a beer and wine licence if you want to have a drink on their patio beside the boardwalk.
We can provide serving trays, a fridge / freezer, and a kitchen area. We do not provide any catering options but will open earlier to allow your caterer to set up.
No food or drinks to be consumed on the greens
Another option other event holders have enjoyed after their event, is a walk up to Queen Street to visit one of the many restaurants, pubs, or coffee shops.
Noise & Waste Disposal
You may bring your own music and equipment but the volume must not exceed 75 db (decibels) in accordance with Parks & Recreation rules. It is important to be aware that we are located in Kew Beach Park on the shores of Lake Ontario surrounded by a community of homes. In order to keep the park clean and as undisturbed as possible The City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department insist on their waste disposal and noise level rules being followed.
Weather Considerations
In the case of rain, we offer two options. If it rains on the scheduled day of your event, we will refund your 50% deposit in full, or when you sign your agreement you can select a backup rain-out date. In the case where your group commences play and light rain starts, play can continue and there is no refund. If there is lightning, play must stop. On the day before your event, we check with Environment Canada for weather updates and consult with your Event Leader as to whether you want to proceed.
Parking
Because we are in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Toronto, parking is limited. We suggest to our guests that they arrange their own mini-bus or car pool to arrive in groups or to use TTC or UBER. If you take TTC it is a 5 min walk from Queen Street & Lee Ave south to the club. There is also a Green P parking lot at the south, east corner of Queen and Lee.
